You decide your story.
Earned, not given.
Course Record: 33 yards (Josh Woods, 2026)
2.2. takes the Kent Backyard Ultra Series to the Kent coast.
Winter.
Open ground.
Exposure.
And one yard every hour until only one runner remains.
Dover is different to Vigo.
This is not woodland shelter and darkness.
This is cold air, open sky, changing weather, and the kind of conditions that slowly wear people down.
You do not beat a Backyard Ultra all at once.
You just keep turning up on the hour.
Again.
And again.
Every hour resets the race.
You suffer together.
Recover together.
Then stand back on the line together.
Between yards, strangers become crew mates.
Competitors become encouragement.
You stop thinking about finish times.
The only thing that matters is:
Can you do one more yard?
That is why Backyard Ultras get under your skin.
The Backyard Ultra is simple on paper and relentless in practice.
There is only one finisher.
The Last Person Standing is the runner who can complete one more yard than anyone else.
Everyone else reaches their final yard.
The Assist is the final runner to complete a yard before the winner.
2.2. Dover takes place at Great Farthingloe Farm in Farthingloe Valley, the nearest valley to the White Cliffs of Dover.
Basecamp is fully indoors inside the Great Barn, creating a sheltered space away from the winter weather above.
As a winter event, no outside structures are permitted. The aim is simple:
keep the event moving whatever the conditions.
Out on the course, the experience changes completely.
The route runs along the top of the valley with wide open views across the Channel toward mainland Europe.
In clear conditions, you can see France.
2.2. Dover is the closest UK Backyard Ultra to mainland Europe.
This is a winter Backyard Ultra.
Conditions matter.
Decision making matters.
And every hour asks the same question:
Can you do one more yard?
This is the full event.
No set finish.
No fixed distance.
You continue for as long as you can complete each yard within the hour.
Same event.
Same course.
Same start line.
Your challenge simply ends after 7 hours.
Many runners start here, then come back for the full event.
Not running?
You can still be part of the event.
Join the Hellfire Crew and help deliver the event from the inside.
Volunteers must be 18+.
