You decide your story. Earned, not given.
The Backyard Ultra is simple on paper and relentless in practice.
You will:
• Run a 4.167 mile loop every hour
• Start a new loop on the hour
• Finish within 60 minutes to stay in
• Miss the bell and your race is over
Event Two takes place on a crisp January morning on the Dover coast.
Backyard Ultras are tough, but they are also one of the most supportive formats in running.
You run together, rest together and go again together.
During booking, you can choose:
• Backyard Ultra
• 7 Hour Challenge
Places are capped at 120 runners across all entry types.
If you want in, book early. You may spread the cost interest free.
Dover is Event Two in the Kent Backyard Ultra Series.
Series events:
• Event One 14 November 2025 Vigo Rugby Club, Vigo Village
• Event Two 10 January 2026 Great Farthingloe Farm, Dover
• Event Three 7 March 2026 Lillyroo’s, Sholden near Deal
• Event Four 26 June 2026 Bedgebury National Pinetum, Goudhurst
You can still join the series.
All four events can be purchased as a bundle for £300, saving £45 compared to buying each event separately.
Just click the Series link in the booking section below.
Every yard you complete at each event adds to your overall total and your chance to earn the Series Black Buckle.
Around 50 percent trail and 50 percent road.
Trail sections can get muddy after rain, so good grip matters.
Mostly private road with a short stretch of grass.
Ideal for keeping you moving when fatigue sets in.
Both routes are achievable within the hour with sensible pacing.
This is coastal winter running. You may get clear skies and views of France.
You may get fog, bitter wind or sideways rain.
Whatever the day brings, you will earn your yards.
The 7 Hour Challenge follows the same rules as the Backyard, but your race ends after seven yards.
You will:
• Start at 9:00 AM
• Run a yard every hour
• Complete your final yard at 4:00 PM
It is a perfect introduction to the format. No shortcuts. No easy version. Just seven hours of honest work.
Every effort counts.
• Complete at least one yard - Kent Backyard Ultra DNF Medal
• Complete 24 yards or 100 miles - Bronze Buckle
• Finish as the Assist - Silver Buckle
• Finish as the Last One Standing - Gold Buckle
• Complete the most yards across the series - Series Black Buckle
One yard at a time.
You decide the story.
The format decides the test.
The Fenix Into the Light Award celebrates runners who still have something left in the tank at the seventh hour.
It will be judged on the yard that starts at 3:00 PM.
Awards will be given as runners return from that loop.
Eligible runners include everyone in the full Backyard and the 7 Hour Challenge.
Winners:
• First male back from the 3:00 PM yard
• First female back from the 3:00 PM yard
Each winner receives:
• Fenix Light bag
• Fenix cap
• Fenix snood
• Fenix HM65-T v2.0 headtorch
How much do you have left after seven hours.
This is the moment you find out.
Enduo Sports have joined us this year and are providing a selection of fantastic sport prizes.
These will be given out at random throughout the event.
They might appear at the start line, during a rest break or when you return from a yard.
No competition. No extra rules.
Just a little boost from a partner who loves what you are doing.
We keep things simple.
• No admin fees
• No price increases
• No hidden charges
The price you see is the price you pay.
We are runners too. Every decision begins with one question.
How would we want to be treated.
You decide your story. Earned, not given.
We follow the SheRACES guidelines to make our events safer, more accessible and more comfortable for female runners. This includes female-only toilets, hygiene products available if needed, inclusive language and fair treatment for all participants.
For full details, please check our FAQ or visit www.sheraces.com to learn more and support this fantastic cause.
This event is entirely outdoors.
There is space for camping or a gazebo, so bring whatever you need to stay warm and comfortable between yards. This may include a chair, table, warm layers and shelter.
There will be a communal marquee, but space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.
January is cold. The ground can be wet. You will spend more time resting than running.
Pack for winter and prepare for long breaks in the cold.
We strongly recommend:
• Waterproof jacket with taped seams
• Headtorch suitable for trail running
• Spare battery or secondary light
• Reusable bottle or cup
• Trail shoes with grip
• Food and drink for your full effort
• Warm layers, gloves and hat
• A reliable light source for evening
It gets dark from yard six, so make sure your lighting is sorted.
Crew is optional. Some runners bring someone, others prefer to go solo. Backyard Ultras often feel like a team effort, and having someone to help you reset, eat or stay warm between yards can help you keep going.
If you bring crew, they are welcome in the start and finish area. They cannot pace you or assist you on the loop, but they can support you during your rest time.
Whether you come alone or with a helper, you will be part of a supportive environment built around helping each other go again, one yard at a time.
You can spread the cost of entry at no extra charge.
Payment plans available for solo entries and the 7 Hour Challenge.
No interest and no hidden fees.
If you refer someone to the event, you will both receive rewards through our referral scheme.
Details are included in your confirmation email.
