KENT BACKYARD ULTRA — Round One: Vigo
Date: Friday 14th November 2025
Start Time: 9:00 PM
Location: Vigo Rugby Club, Vigo
The Backyard Ultra format is simple:
Run a 4.167-mile loop (a “yard”) every hour, on the hour, until only one runner remains.
Finish within 60 minutes to stay in. Miss the bell, and you're out.
Round One kicks off under the stars — a rare Friday night start to set the tone for the season.
Backyard Ultras can be challenging — but they’re also one of the most sociable events out there.
You’ll run together, rest together, and push through together, one yard at a time.
We know night running can feel intimidating — especially if you’re arriving solo. So here’s how we make it safer, more welcoming, and better supported for everyone:
The course is clearly marked throughout
Marshals are stationed in key locations
A dedicated sweeper follows each yard
You’ll never be far from others — this is a shared experience. Everyone sets off together. Everyone returns together.
If you’d like to be paired with someone for your first lap or two, just ask at registration — we’ll make it happen.
This format is built on community. You won’t be alone out there.
You don’t need to commit to the full series to take part.
Pick what works for you:
Standalone Event
7 Hour Challenge
Series Pass (all four rounds)
Entry is capped at 120 runners total.
If you’re in — book now and spread the cost.
This is the first of four rounds in the Kent Backyard Ultra Series:
Round One – 14 Nov 2025 — Vigo Rugby Club
Round Two – 10 Jan 2026 — Great Farthingloe Farm, Dover
Round Three – 7 Mar 2026 — Lillyroo's Campsite, Sholden, Near Deal
Round Four – 26 Jun 2026 — Bedgebury National Pinetum, Goudhurst
Each round is a new challenge. Whether you’re after farmer’s fields, dry gravel tracks, or forest trails — we’ve got something for you.
There’s a night route and a day route, switching at sunrise.
You’ll run woodland trails, open paths around Trosley Country Park, and sections of the North Downs Way.
Expect runnable terrain, gentle climbs, and big open skies — with plenty of company along the way.
Every yard is designed to wear you down slowly — just how it should be.
Not ready to run all night? You still might.
The 7 Hour Challenge follows the exact same format, just capped at seven yards.
You’ll still start at 9:00 PM, and still be running well into the early hours.
It’s not a warm-up. It’s your first real taste of what this format demands.

And of course: a better shot at the Black Buckle, awarded to the runner with the highest total yardage across all four rounds.
Every effort counts — and it gets recognised:
Complete at least 1 yard: Kent Backyard Ultra Medal
Complete 24 yards / 100 miles: Bronze Buckle
Be the Assist (2nd place): Silver Buckle
Be the Last One Standing: Gold Buckle
Most yards across the series: Black Buckle
You can enter one event or all four.
Every yard you complete adds to your series total:
Run 7 yards at Round One
Run 10 at a future round
= You’ll have 17 yards listed on the leaderboard.
You don’t need to win.
You just need to keep showing up.
We keep it simple — always.
Mandatory Kit (must be shown at registration and carried):
Waterproof jacket with taped seams
Headtorch (min. 300 lumens)
Spare battery or secondary light source
Reusable bottle or cup
Trail shoes with appropriate grip
Enough food to fuel your entire effort
No kit = no start.
We don’t raise prices closer to race day.
We don’t charge admin or transaction fees.
The price you see is the price you pay.
Yes, we need to make money to run these events — but that doesn’t mean we can't do the right thing while we do it.
Every decision starts with: “How would we want to be treated?”
You can split the cost of entry — totally free.
Payment plans are available for:
Series Pass
Solo Entries
7 Hour Challenge
No interest. No sneaky fees. Just flexibility.
If you’re in, tell your friends.
When someone signs up using your shared referral link, you’ll both get rewarded.
Round One is your chance to find out what you’re really capable of —
Not in a blaze of glory, but one quiet hour at a time.
Pick your format, secure your place, and we’ll see you at Vigo.
Stand on the line. Go yard by yard. Let’s see what happens next.
